Sync it like it’s haaaat, sync it like it’s haaaat
Right now I am using Dropbox which I have two accounts with. I have an account for work and a personal account. I have two accounts because I never felt right having personal work or possibly work for others synced across computers I might be using at work. Luckily, Dropbox lets you share folders with other users and or accounts. So I have a shared folder which syncs to my personal account at home. I can open files at home, edit them, and then save them. Since this is a syncing application, once the files change, they are automatically synced to any other computers tied to that account. So, it saves the file I edited on my desktop at work, as well as my laptop from work. Instantly. I don’t have to worry about forgetting my flash drive or anything.
Now, what if I accidentally delete a file? Well, luckily Dropbox still provides a solution for that in the way of previous version archiving. With this, you can go back in time and rescue a file you have deleted, or get an older version of the file. The default length is 30-days. If you upgrade to Pack Rat, you can keep them forever. Forever? Forever!
Now, these files I am editing with Dropbox, I am rendering through a VNC connection to my Octo Core Mac Pro at work. Which renders really, really fast compared to any other computer I have access to.
Now, instead of worrying if my rendering crapped out overnight, I can simply check in on them from time to time from home. When they complete, the rendered output is stored into my Dropbox folder so the renderings automatically show up on my computer at home. I can then do a quick edit in Photoshop to adjust levels or curves and then save it. When I get to work, the file is already there.
